Fleas of Perth

Cat Flea (Ctenocephalides felis)
​Habitat: Most common flea species in Perth (even more common on dogs than actual dog fleas).
Key Characteristics: 2-3mm long, reddish-brown body.
Risks: Itching and allergic dermatitis in pets and humans, tapeworm transmission.

Dog Flea (Ctenocephalides canis)​
Habitat: Less common, but still found in Perth. Infests dogs, livestock and humans.
Key Characteristics: Similar in appearance to Cat Flea, but with more rounded head and differently spaced bristles.
Risks: Transmits tapeworms and bacterial infections. Bites often caused ellergic reactions in dogs.
