Termites of Perth

Termites activity in Perth is widespread and persistent. Below are the key termite species found in Perth.

Australian Subterranean Termite (Coptotermes acinaciformis)
Overview: The most destructive termite species in Perth. Lives in large underground colonies. Can cause sever structural damage to homes and timber structures.
Key Characteristics: Builds mud tubes to access timber above ground. Prefers moist, concealed environments. Often nests in tree stumps, wall cavities, or under concrete slabs.
Risk Level: EXTREME. Commonly targets homes, fences, decks, and furniture.

Tree Termite (Nasutitermes exitiosus)
Overview: Native to Australia. Often nests in mounds or trees, but occasionally invades homes.
Key Characteristics: Soldiers have pointed snouts which secrete a defensive chemical. Forages in the open, but usually in a less aggressive pattern to its relatives.
Risk Level: MODERATE. More likely to damage gardens, fences, trees, or rural properties rather than suburban homes.

Subterranean Termite (Heterotermes ferox)
Overview: Smaller and less aggressive than the Australian Subterranean Termite. Common around the coastal and outer suburbs of Perth.
Key Characteristics: Prefers mostly decayed timber, mulch or damp areas. Can be found under decks, patios and landscaping timbers.
Risk Level: LOW TO MODERATE. Often found in garden timbers, retaining walls, and shed floors.

Giant Northern Termite (Mastotermes darwiniensis)
Overview: Rare and not typically found in Perth. Found in tropical northern Australia.
Key Characteristics: Largest and most primitive termite species. Infests a wide range of materials, including rubber, leather and even electrical cables.
Risk Level: Potentially EXTREME if established.

Termite Treatments Perth
If you suspect you have termites, or you can't remember the last time you had an inspection, we highly recommend you contact us now to get the ball rolling.

Common Signs of Termite Activity in Perth:
- Mud tubes along walls, foundations, or floor.
- Hollow sounding timber or bubbling paint.
- Frass (termite droppings) near wooden structures.
- Presence of swarms (alates), especially after rain.
Timber Pest Inspection: Our highly skilled technicians will complete an assessment. A timber pest inspection will be completed to Australian Standards 4349.3 and inline with AS 3600.2. This non invasive inspection is to assess the evidence of timber pests, existence of visually observable damage caused by timber pests, the susceptibility of the building to timber pests and any further investigations required.
Australian Standards recommends a Timber Pest Inspection be carried out by a qualified company on an ANNUAL basis.

Chemical Soil Treatments: The most common form of protection is a chemically treated zone around or under the structure, forming a chemical barrier against termite entry. We exclusively use a chemical called Fipronil. Fipronil is long last (up to 8 years protection) and non-repellent. Non-repellent termiticides are the most effective as termites carry the poison back to the nest. We are required to drill or trench around the outside of the structure to install this treatment.

Termite Baiting Systems: This system is highly effective at eradicating termites directly at their colony. Bait stations, either placed in ground or above ground, are baited with an environmentally friendly, safe, non-toxic attractants. They are slow acting and transferred directly to the colony.

** Please note, all inspections and treatments are in compliance with Australian Standards, manufacturer labels and industry codes of practice, of which Tritan Pest Management is a co-signatory. All termite work is carried out by our team of industry specialist, which include subcontractors.
